Earth Hour, KK

The Earth Hour is an international effort to promote the awareness of global warming and how each of us is able to contribute a little in order to prolong the life span of Earth, our HABITAT.  This campaign has been active for a while but this is the first year where the Malaysian media was heavily promoting it.

Naturally as an eco friendly person, I decided to partake in the Earth Hour by turning off all the lights in my apartment for an hour.  After that, I got a little curious and begin to wonder how many of us in KK actually care.  This is when I took my car and drove around the city for an hour.  The answer is, NOT MANY.

Surprised?  Not really.  Disappointed?  Not really either.  KK is a small city and inhabited by a majority of lowly educated people.  You can’t expect these people to understand the importance of the deterioraton of our environment.  To them, money and their own survival come first.  In a way, they do not posess the luxury to care.  To me, that’s fair enough.  What angers me the most are those who can afford to care but can’t be bothered.  Our istana on top of the hill was not only brightly lit but shone brilliantly during the Earth Hour of a moonless night.  Imagine how much heat that one venue generated every single night.  Our PM, who’s pockets are loaded to the extend of combustion couldn’t care less either.

I would like to congratulate those who did care and contributed to the Earth Hour last night.  Business venues such as Little Italy, Kinabalu Daya Hotel and the entire waterfront including Port View!  Bravo!  All those private homes that made an effort.  Well done.  Hopefully this campaign will strive on annually until the message has been delivered to every single home including the lowly educated people.

Do you know you can chop up earth hour into 60 earth minute slices?
Or you can do one earth day and you’ll be earth hour free for the next 23 years.
Or you can help the uneducated and those who couldn’t care less do the earth hour by tripping a power station and causing a total blackout for one hour.

    Just kidding 😛

Hahahaha!!! Maybe I should trip the power station for 24 hours so that the uneducated can stay shamelessly ignorant for the next 23 years 😉 However, I may not get out of my city alive 😀
